See Wilburg you didnt vomit afterall, Do what HDD says and youll be fine, that LT fluid is like trans fluid so it wont do any seal damage or clutch damage, thats called a Hilliard clutch system I think, and they are real sensitive to different fluids if its too thick then it will slow you down to quick and to thin and it will not work or chatter or grind to peices. good luck , Bu i understand about the Vomit thing LOL

Default New Lt Oil?

Ok, so I got home and in fact I have the wrong oil ...

The thing that upset me the most, is that the DEALER knows what I own (he knows me) the DEALER took the oil off the shelf and sold it to me. Therefore, I am sure htat the dealer does not know about the new oil. I hope that he stocks it, or I am screwed for my planned trip on Monday (the whole reason why i serviced it in the first place)

dammit dammit dammit!!!

yeah,i'd be getting a free quart or two.if you can't get the right fluid you can take what you drained in the pan, filter it through your underwear then pour it back in your machine,it will be alittle better.it should give you better piece of mind anyway.what i'm getting at is my lesson of trust is trust no one until they prove to me they can be trusted.when i go into this stealershi! once a year i know the correct item# i'm looking for.parts dude actually disputed my part# the first time i ever entered a polaris place.i told him he needs glasses.and a couple of other near misses i asked him how long he has been working there (because he has screw up three out of four times) he said two years,i whispered, you must be 8lowing the owner. i saw his confused face......he heard me...i'm sure there are good polaris dealerships out there(like where o.p.t. is at)but none at all near me.....................

Ok, so I went back to the dealer and they did NOT have the oil. They told me that they just figured this issue out and just ordered oil, it will come in next friday. I asked them if they ever had the oil (or were they just out of it) the replied that they have never carried the oil.

I'm like, OMG they have been selling (and presumingly servicing) these machines for over two years now and they have been putting in the wrong oil. It takes a NOOB to tell them that they have been using the wrong oil. WTF!!!

I had to go to the next closest dealership 30 miles away to get the right oil. I didn't even want that crap sitting in my machine for the week.

So I got the right oil, I am letting the machine drain for a couple hours and then I will put the LT stuff in and the run it around my house, and let it drain over night and refill it tomorrow. Luckily, all I did was back it into my garage, no 4wd, no ADC used. So I will presume no damage.

I am soooo lucky that I did this service myself, I have no doubt that the service that would of cost me $180 would have used the wrong oil, and later on when the front diff went to crap, I would of been paying for that too.

Holy camedo batman, thank goodness for this forum!! I am addicted

btw, don't you think this LT oil thing should be a sticky?

I think the sticky thing is a good idea because I've read of several other guys having the same problem. Dealers suck!

I agree the dealers have some pretty significant responsibility for this kind of crap, but POLARIS God love the bastards, needs to quit makin' it so figggin complicated. My first ATV was an '04 ATP, they actually referred to the stuff that goes in the front end by two different terms in the owners manual. I know because I did the same damn thing as wilburg and put the wrong stuff in the front end. Luckily it didn't screw anything up, but it could be simpler.

Default New Lt Oil?

I remember the good old days when all Polaris ATVs used one oil for 4-strokes and one for 2-smokes, one battery for EVERY model (until they came out with the diesel and needed more cold cranking amps), one fluid for all 4x4 front ends, etc. Even back then they had a few different kinds of grease but you could use the most expensive one for everything. Then things got too complicated. They need to make things simpler like it was 10 years ago. I think they're going to one common engine oil, which would be a good place to start. One grease for everything and one 4x4 fluid would be a next good step IMO.

I think there should be a sticky with all the correct fluids for every year and model at the very top of the forum. I don't know if they have problems like this with other brands but we need it for Polaris. If it was a link to another site with all the info that would work too. Another good sticky might be "what's the biggest tire I can fit on this thing?" as that gets asked a lot.

Ya the dealers aren't up to speed on what goes in the newer machines. I was one with front diff issues and now I have a NON ADC diff and no problems. My first diff got the wrong oil and screwed up, my second was brand spankin new from Polaris and lasted about a month. They ordered me a non ADC diff and that's what I'm still using without problems and I actually like it better than with ADC. I like how the 08s have a switch to turn it off
