I removed the stock silencer from my Scrambler. This thing weighs in at 9 lbs!!! I was sure it was packed full of lead.

I am planning on getting a FMF silencer/spark arrestor. Besides weight...what exactly are the advantages? Any power gains? What exactly is the difference between aftermarkets and stockers? Whats with the packing?

Thanks

Hi Xplor:

I have the HPD Silencer (not forest approved). It was 5 Lbs less than stock. When I go to a place that requires it I will put the stock one back one. I was told by HPD that it would reduce HP by 3%. I actually have not had it back one to really see if there is a noticable differance or not. I will be putting it on when I go south in a couple of weeks. I also want to see if its noticably quieter with the stock one on. I weighed the pipe with silencer as compared to stock when I put it on and there was a 10 Lbs differance.

I was thinking about getting the fmf for my sc500, I know a guy that has the megamax 2 on his 400ex and the top end is not any higher then my 400ex(stock), but it has alot better throttle response, alot snappier, it also sounds alot better> Let me know how it works on the scrambler.
