What is considered High Mileage?
#11
I was searching craigslist for a used sportsmans just before I logged on here. I refuse to buy a used machine with over 2K on it and hope to find something under 1K miles. Simply no reason to buy a high mileage machine, there are so many used machines on the market right now and for good prices...why buy something with higher miles??
More important than miles is condition/maintenence. I found about a dozen sportsmans tonight, judging from the ads 6 are in good used condition. 4 are in excellent condition and there are 2 that look to be flawless, "all maint. done at dealer, reciepts, etc" type ads. You can just tell by the ad that they are near perfect. These are the machines I will be looking at first and I won't settle for less...these machines are out there! Might have to put a few miles on searching for it, but they're around.

Man I don't see how you guys can think 1,000 or 1,500 miles is "high mileage"
If you ride 50 miles every other weekend thats 1,300 miles in one year. Ya'll consider that high?
I'd be more concerend about how it was ridden not how far it was ridden. That's just me though.

5000 miles will raise the eybrows of about any customer. however it really depends on how they look and run....i have seen many good looking and running machines with over 10,000 miles and i have seen pieces of shiite at 1,000 miles

Boy, I just bought a new 08 x2 500 this summer and put something like 500 mi on it. We bought it in july so we didn't even ride a whole season. I sure hope that it lasts longer then what you guys are describing. We do 70 mi trips in an afternoon all the time and live on a trail so it's easy to go riding.
I looked for used where I live, N WI, but people want way too much for the used ones around here, even private sales. There is one sportsman up the road, 05 IIRC, that looks nice but the guy wants 5500 for it. I bought my 08 x2 for 7200 and the reg sportsmans were around 6400ish IIRC when I was looking. Can't see not going new for those prices and one of the reasons I went new.
Oh that sportsman that is up the road has been for sale for several months now with no takers. This is a common asking price around here and after several months of looking for used, just gave up and bought new.
I did figure that my sportsmans would last at least 5000 mi if properly cared for. Most of my riding is on nice trails you can almost drive a car down. Can's see how that's rough on them.

I will last for many many miles, I believe the discussion at hand was what was high miles. If taken care of a machine will last forever as long as you replace the worn out parts. Why do you think that semi trucks go a million + miles in only a hand full of years. Its all about maintaining your stuff.

I see from my eye a Prairie 400 up to 40 000 miles...very good condition.....old guy was on is atv day long ( meet the guy on a trail ).....another I see was a sportsman 500 with 35 000 miles at the dealer. I think that a lot of miles. My father got a John Deere AMT 600 ( 5 wheels ) 1986 with a lot of hours.....I mean a lot. We got also our first atv 3 wheelers ATC big red 1983 and a Yamaha YMF 225...still run great.
