You might want to put this on the Polaris forum.

It could beat a Blaster, Warrior, 300EX, Mojave, most of the utility quads (Although some of the 700's and 800's are pretty darn quick!).

The 400 is a 2 stroke, so it can benefit greatly from a complete exhaust, Rad Valve (Or V-Force) and a clutch kit for basic bolt ons. Depending on the pipe, you can increase HP by 8-10 by replacing the exhaust alone!

They are pretty quick and can be quite quick with a few mods. There are companies and items out there to make them stupid fast if you have the money.

IMO, they make a great trail and all around quad as they are easy to ride, and easy to maintain. They have enough beef to them to add a plow to. If you want to race at a track, look more toward the current crop of 450 sport quads. The suspension on the Polaris is adequate until you start to push it (aka ride hard), then it drops below par in a hurry.

With a pipe and clutch kit it would.

Just as an FYI, the 400 2-stroke Polaris engine can be made to produce well over 80hp.
Also, he doesn't have to shift - that accounts for some speed (Unless you have installed an ignition interrupting air shifter) - it is MUCH easier to launch an automatic in a drag race.

Polarisboy, I'm positive that you will find this interesting: http://www.aaenperformance.com/Power400.asp

They are achieving mid 70's HP on gasoline. That isn't even going to alcohol! I'm not sure that I would want to ride that rocket, but as you can see...you can go as wild as you (and your wallet) want.

500 scramblers aren't really good.Plain and simple 400's are way more moddable.400's will win against the 500's in a race.Keep the 400 don't eff around with the 500.Great power but don't take to mods well though.

Scrambler400enoge is right about the moddable part. The 400 is faster (2 strokes rev quicker and have more HP than the same size 4 stroke - by far).
You can easily rebuild a 2 stroke yourself - in just a few hours. 2 strokes do not have valves and cams to mess with. The 4 strokes are heavier, too.
As far as being a good quad, I don't think that you would go wrong either way. They both have the same frame for any given year. The 2wd 400 is faster yet, as you lose some weight and drive train resistance.
