Registering 850 XP in Minnesota
Has anyone tried registerring an 850 XP in Minnesota recently and how has it gone?
According to the 2008-2009 ATV handbook for Minnesota it states an ATV must have an engine displacement of less than 800 cubic centimeters.
Since most registrations are done elctronically these days can this thing be registered as an ATV in Minnesota, and if not what can we do with it in our state?
This would rule would rule out the new Polaris and Artic Cat big bores.
The can am 800 is listed at 799.9 cc.

Registering 850 XP in Minnesota
I'm in Pennsylvania and havent ever looked into our laws and regs. but when they gave me my plate the other day it was a class 2 plate. I do remeber the guy saying that it's 801 lbs. and that makes it a Class 2. I'm gonna have to look up the specs. and see but I wanna say that the 800 is under 800 lbs. I'm gonna check it as soon as I'm done writing this thread.
It doesnt make a difference to me either way I don't ride on any of the state trails to worry about what Class I have and he said the price of the registration isnt any more money either so I guess it makes no difference. I'll get back to you guys and let you know.

I would check and see what wisconsin rules are and then register it there. I live in mn but have all 4 of my atv's registered in wi.</end quote></div>
I'm not sure how you pulled that off. My Bro-in-law bought an X2 2 years ago specifically for leaving at the cabin. He tried to register it in WI for over a year and they told him he could not because he is a MN resident. Finally he gave up and had the F-I-L register it since he is a WI resident.

On another note here.............The Side by side's here in Ontario Canada are not even listed as a ATV...............The law for ATV's here say you need to straddle the seat,Have handlebars, and Four wheels all in contact with the ground.............So where ATV's are allowed here to drive on secondary roads.....................These Side-By-Side are not allowed..........The Rally I was at in Mattawa, Ontario did not even allow 2-up people to ride 2-up on the roads...even if they had a Quad build for 2-up!!!!
So the people with the side by side's and riding double......ALL NEEDED TO GET A SHUDDLE SERVICE TO THE TRAIL................Caper...........

Guys, the OP was talking about engine displacement not quad weight.</end quote></div>
Sorry just thought I'd throw my experience on there as well. I'm not from Minnesota or and XP owner, but the experiences are similar. Most threads get a little off course but the OP usually reads through and can still get his answer and the thread usually provides useful info. to others as well. Some threads get a lil too far off topic but most don't and become helpful to a lot of readers. IMO, this thread hasnt gotten too far out of wack yet so I'm not gonna worry about it. If the OP doesnt like it then he can say so and I'll delete my posts.
