Default Polairs Sportsman - Oil filter wrench

I have a 2004 Polaris Sportsman 700 EFI - purchased used. I am due for an oil change, but I cannot find a wrench to fit the oil filter. I have gone to countless number of auto stores, and I cannot find a wrench to fit. Due to the tight space, I would prefer the end-cap type wrench that fits to a 3/8" drive socket wrench - but I cannot find anything small enough for this filter.

I've read articles where people use the end-cap type wrenches - where are they finding them?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you cant get it off by hand than someone put it on to tight in the fist place. You can ram a srcew driver through it and turn it that way.

Try wal-mart. Use there computer look up to get the right one. Or bettere yet take a filter with you to verify. I know they used to stock them, probably still do. It is the same size as is used on the 2004-2009 Nissan Titan..
Matter of fact the filter crosses, lol. Same as my 08 800. Unfortuantely they changed the filter on the XP,everything is the same just shorter so it doesn't stick out from the skid plate. I have a few on hand(I own 2 Titans) So I'm going to see if it protrudes. Same wrench though. Thanks for reminding me I need to pick one up.

Don't mean to call you out, but the second part of this is a bad idea. I have seen the screwdrive technique done and have done it before myself. I did it on my old expedition and absolutely mangled the oil filter. If i didn't stop when i did, even an oil filter wrench would't of gotten it off....

Get a small rachet style. You may have to cut the handle slightly. All you need to do is break the tension and then you can unscrew it by hand!!!

Good luck

I have a large pair of Channel Lock pliers that get most of the filters off that I encounter. It usually grips just enough to break the filters loose... after that they come off pretty easy. Usually, I don't have trouble removing the ones I install by hand.

I also have a couple of those Sears rubber straps grips that work well in some (not all) tight places.
