That's a good idea and it will help battery life.Even though it's inside I would put it on a trickle charger once a month. The only thing it will affect with the speedo is you will have to reset your clock when you reinstall.

well sheep i know the speedo has an internal battery and hopefully it will holds its memory for the winter. i only charge the battery once its out in the cellar and leave it. it'll be fine as this is what i do for the car, lawnmower or what ever. trying to get more years out of it where i didnt ride it much this year. what a pain to get the damn thing out w/ all the mud packed in there as its tight to begin with .lol

Isn't there a plug for a 9v battery under the speedo?
Would it do any good to plug one in while the battery is out?

I thought maybe it would keep the memory. No clue really.

well i stopped being lazy and went to find the answer by reading the manual. from the manual it states" instr. memory is maintained by internal non servicable battery(this i remembered) which keeps the instr. cluster memory while the bike is off". it runs on a 12 volt battery charge(so a 9volt battery would work). well since the bikes battery doesnt keep the clusters memory unless bike is running and my bike sits for 5 months w/out starting i guess it wouldnt matter if the battery is in there or not. hope this helps someone else as well if need be.

Have you considered a battery tender? I have always removed my batteries on my sportys for the winter and kept them warm in the garage and trickle charged them about once a month. However, they were easily accessible. The sportsmans batteries are a pain in the a@* to access. I plan to get a battery tender so I just plug it in to the pigtail that stays installed on the battery terminals and it keeps the battery fresh anytime I'm not riding. I just wondered if you already considered this as I don't want to do it if it won't work or something????

it would be a long extention cord to my lower garage w/ no power. not to mention the doors dont get opened until spring.
