There was some concern that there should be a vent line attached where the hole is. AAfraid water would get in.

Then a poster who works for the company that makes the front diff for Polaris advised that it is a drain for the vent. If you read the last three or four posts it is described there.

This is the thread. Look for the 1st post from IKSYOTAS.

There is no deffect or problem

well pretty much i have it narrowed down to an 08 sportsman 400 h.o. and a 09 sportsman 500 h.o. (no efi). the 400 comes with a winch and a plow for 5500 and th 500 is 5500. what are really the differences between the 400 and 500?

the 400 is equal and sometimes better than the 500. depends.</end quote></div>

like how if you dont mind me asking?</end quote></div>

It is hard to justify, you get alot more machine for a little more money with the 500 HO Carb. But if you don't want a ' big ole jeep' and you want the nimble and sportiness of a smaller ATV that is big on power, the 400 Polaris is in a league of it's own. Maybe the Can AM 400 could run with it, (maybe) but it a lot more $$$ and a little bigger too.
Is there a faster utility ATV out there for about $4899 , or even one the same size, with as much power.
The 400 Pol. has lots more brute power than my old '08 Grizzly 450, and the grizz was alot more money.
All around tho I think the Pol. 400's toughest competition is the 500 Pol, but it's big.

I cant imagine needing them any more stiff then they already are. If needed you could purchase some spring blocks. What are you planning on needing stiffer springs for?

there is a night and day differnce from a 500 and the 400 ho that has nothing to do w/ the engine. the ride is totally differnt as well how the bike handles and manuvres. it being alot smaller and lighter makes it feel toatally differnt in my opinion. best thing to to ride them both for the best comparsion. the 400 ho will never be the 500 class of a bike but there again the ho is special in its own right for certain things.
