XP 550 & 850 Rear Gearcase Internals
#1
I was scanning through the parts diagrams for the XP's and noticed that there is already a build date (12/02/08) change with the rear gearcase internals. Looks like the change involves two internal bearings that went form $17 ea to $45 ea. Anyone have any idea on why the change?

I would assume its probably better bearings. They might fail or just that the new ones offer better longevity. Its probably nothing. Manufacurers of all kinds change part numbers to accomidate suppliers, relialibility issues, etc. Happens all the time. Especially when a new line of a product comes out, thats why many won't buy the first year of that particular product, so the manufacturer can get the bugs out.

There might not be any diff other than a new supplier of a paticular part as with the economy allot of companies are going bankrupt and they mfg's are having to find a new supplier therfore prices will go up to accomodate the new part!
I work parts for Chrysler and see this happen all the time!

When ADC was introduced in the 2007 Sportsman line, by August of that year there was a subsequent build date. I don't know what was changed, but I'm sure it was like what the other guys explained.

Yeah I noticed the same thing awhile back. More than just 2 bearings change, the case and ring gear even have different part numbers,as well as a few other small items, seals, drain plugs ect.
I chocked it up to a supplier issue, but who knows. No problem out of my rear diff so far.

For the sake of all those that have purchased new XP's, I sure hope it's not a quality issue. With a price increase on the bearings like that... one would think that they were at least "concerned" about the bearings. However, I'm sure if there is a problem, they will take care of it, and it could be something unrelated to a quality issue as HIGHOCTANE said. With all the good press they are getting on the XP's, I doubt they are going to throw it all down the drain because of some minor issues.
With that said, I always like to wait for a while on a new model year for the manufacturer to work out the "kinks". Especially in the case of a completely new production model like the XP.

Yep, I read it too. I hope it's just an isolated issue.

I'm assuming that my machine will be coming with the new bearings as well as other updates.
The ship date from Polaris is 12/5.
