Default Transmission Question

Hi there,
I have a 95 Polaris 300 4X4. Once in a great while after starting the quad and shifting into gear the machine has to be revved quite high before the transmission will engage. It is a rare occurance but nonetheless happens. I am sure that the tranny is engaged in gear and it is the same in low, high, and reverse. It does not seem that the belt is slipping as there is no squeal. If the machine is shut off and restarted the problem goes away and the tranny runs normally. Anybody out there experienced the same problem or have any ideas?? Thanks

I have found that by placing the transmission in neutral and reving the engine to loosen up the belt a bit really helps a lot, especially when you are just starting out with a wheeler that has been sitting for a while like a couple of hours or over nite.

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

Sounds like you have a worn primary clutch

take the cover off and see whats happening in thare. i agree with the worn primary. its probably getting "stuck" and not engaging. but be careful if your revving it and it decides to "unstick" it could jump forward and run you over....
