Default Maxxis Zilla or Mud Bug Radial

I know I beat this topic to death, but here goes. I want a good all around radial tire. I ride in all condition's, tend to stay away from the deep mud hole's. I do ride in muddy condition's.
Wet rocky terrain of WV, Hard pack trail's, steep slick climb's,and so on. I want to stay away from an extremely heavy tire and would like to go 14". Buddy has 27" XTR's and they are great but to expensive for my wallet right now. I feel these 2 would be good all around, I know about the bighorn's but tread depth and weight. I want to stay away from heavy steering. Thank's.

What size tires are on your 800 right now? Also, tire selection is a little limited in the 14" size.

Well then, the 27" Zilla's in 14" are still pretty light, and only a little heavier than the 12". A lot of folks love the Zilla's as an all around tire. The Mud Bug Radial doesn't come in 14" yet.

If you stay with the 12" wheels/tires, you can really keep the weight down to a minimum, and you will have a larger selection of tires. BTW, the Bighorn 2.0 quite a bit lighter than the regular Bighorn.

As for the wheels, for a reference point, the 14" SS ITP wheels are approximately 2 lbs heavier than the 12" ... not much difference.

I have found that the mud bug radial's do come in 14". It's on the Maxxis site. I did take note of the 2.0. Thanks. I am amazed at how well the 27x14 xtr's handle, and the steering feel's so light. my little 25's feel light but my hand's get yanked off the bar's on a regular basis and my buddy never has this problem.

i like my mudbugs very much. their not overly heavy and they are good for all terains, and resist mudballing. i would stick with the 12" rims myself, more selection.

Yep, I see the 14" Mud Bug Radial in 26" now. That would be a nice light tire... that for sure... and it's a radial. The Zilla's are not.

Also, so there okay on dry trail's handling wise and don't beat you to death at low speed's.

Well, I can't speak to the riding characteristics of any of them. However, I've been doing a lot of research (as I always do) and here's what I've heard...

6 ply radials seem to ride better than 6 ply bias tires. However, I would think that a lot of variables go into that... like weight, tread design... etc.

The 14" tires ride a tad rougher than the 12".

Again, that's only what I've heard from a lot of folks.

Anyhow, your riding sounds a lot like mine... I'm going with the Bighorn 2.0.

If you want I can give you a link to a nice review on the Mud Bug Radials.
