Give me a Brake!!
#1
Ok all you wrench heads, it has finally come to a point where I need to replace the brake shoes on my '00 SP 500. Are there any after market shoes out there and what trickes can I use to make them last longer? I have a round 350 miles on her and ride in a lot of mud, sand and water..

tips to save them from wearing out so fast?
1. dont use them
2.wash them out good after every ride
as for aftermarket pads check out boxbrakes.com
he sells brass pads for the rear and may now have brass for the fronts..i have a set but havent put them on yet but i would have to say in my experience brass will out last any other pad on the market..check out his site

I just replaced the front pads on both of my 425 magnums. When I do a project,I'm often accused of beating a dead horse.Anyway one aftermarket in my area said that Moose makes a hard wearing pad,but they're 30 bucks for a set of 2.
EBC makes 3 different grades, one of them is made of kevlar.I bought the mid grade carbon sets.
Theres a place close to my home that also sells a lot of aftermarket ATV stuff, the prices seemed good to me.I didn't find them in time to get my pads, but orderded some air filters from them. They have brake pads.
Check out whether the price is for a set of 2 or 4.
It's called Manufacturers Supply.(mfgsupply.com)
Check it out.

ScoutII,
Scout it out, you won't find any brake shoes on that there Polaris. You will find one set of brake pads in the back and 2 in the front. Drum brakes = shoes, disc brakes = pads .... just play'in with ya ...
Here is a copy of an earlier post. I prefer the EBC pads. They have outlasted the orginal pads on my '98 ZSportsman by leaps and bounds. Here goes:
For the rear I ordered the EBC FA270R. EBC has the FA270X, the basic pad, the FA270R, the cintered(sp?) metallic pad, and the FA270SV, the severe duty pad.
For the front I ordered the FA159R.
The rear set was $40 Canadian and the front set was $25.50 Canadian (2 sets required). For you US guys, USD = CDN $/1.47

I'm going to order the brass pads from box brakes and see if I like them. They do make them for the front now, so I'm going to order a complete set.
Thanks all for the info, I'll let you know how they work out.
