Best utility for my style?
#1
Ok guys I have a 400ex right now and was thinking of how I never raced or anything, I should just sell it and get a utility! I ride trails and would like something that is very hard to tip over, sideways or backwards. I live in Alabama and there is a lot of very steep hills, so I don't want to tip it over. I'm 13, but can handle everything. I've driven every fourwheeler known to man, so I can handle anything. What would be best for my style? And yes, price is a major issue and I don't mind buying used. Any transmission is fine, I'm used to em all from clutch driven to ES. So, what do you guys think? BTW The bigger the better it just has to be within a reasonable price. I would prefer 4x4

If you are looking for a comfortable ride the Sportsman is tough to beat. It is heavier framed than others but ride very nice. A 2005 or higher can be bought with electronic fuel injection. They have an excellent all wheel drive system and 05 on up have a nice storage box under the front rack. For stability, especially going up and down hills, the 2 seater versions are fantastic. Look for a Sportsman X2 in the 06 on up range. (I don't know how much you would want to spend) Nice ride, has a dump box for utility use that switches to a 2-up machine with a flip up seat. All of the major manufacturers have great machines. If I didn't by the X2 I would have got the Yamaha Grizzly. But, for me, the Sportsman X2 meets all my needs. Oh, I'm 6'3" and over 350 lbs. I've had myself and a 200+ lb. passenger on it and it handled it without any problems. Reliability has been very good also. Hope this helps you as I see you have other posts in other makers areas.

im guessing he wants something w/ some power as well as speed to throw around. depends on how much he wants to spend and how old he wants. to me a utility and sport dont go together. closest would be the light weight cam am renegade. need more info of what is in his mind. imo.

Like I said i'm 13 and you pretty much just explained what I want. I don't want to spend a lot, maybe $3000 or less? I don't care how old, as long as they are very good, reliable quads and not a pain to keep up. My uncle has an 88 and It is one of the best quads I know! Just trying to get the opinion of some of the older guys on here with more experience than me before I rush into buying something that will not prove to be a good investment in the future. What do you think now that you have all of the details, stendori? And for that matter, MooseHenden?

You could probably find a Sportsman 500 with a carb. for that kind of cash. You'd probably be looking at around a 2001, 2002. Check Craigslist in your area or eBay. I got my son's ATP (Polaris All Terrain Pickup) for $4500 from a guy who only put 20 miles and 10 hours on it. When I bought it, it was a year old. So, I don't think you'll have troubles getting a used Sportsman for that kind of money.

Look into a 2000-2003 500 Scrambler. You will get the 4x4 and not have to give up the sporty ride.Should be able to get a nice one for a little more than you can get out of your EX
