Bad Polaris Winch and plow
#1
After several weeks of trying to decide which plow set-up to get for my 2007 800 x2 DLX, I purchased the Glacier 2 with the polaris 60" plow. I started using it last week. I like the ease of the G2 and it seems plenty strong. The problem is the Plow. The skid shoes that came with the plow disintegrated in about 3 hours and I have already turned over the plow wear bar. (The wear bar on my Honda Rancher with a cycle country plow lasted several years doing the same thing, without any skid shoes.) I just added a cycle country skid shoe kit that appears to be lasting much better. I think I would suggest the cycle country to anyone getting a plow.
Also, on the third day of plowing the 2500 winch as developed a short where I have to hit the up switch about 3 times to bring the winch up. There is power to the winch when the switch is depressed but no winch action. I have not used the winch since new, other than to secure the machine to the trailer. Anyone had the same problem and did Polaris provide any help? Any ideas on the winch would be appreciated.

My Winch does the same thing. I don't have a glacier II but I have heard a lot of people on here talk about them and they have been telling people to stay away from them...Should have looked here first. From my understanding, the Glacier I is the best. If you figure out the winch let me know!

The winch on my 500 and 800 do the same thing, only when pulling IN. I've been told its the contactor that is causing the problem, about an $80 replacement part. I just live with the problem. Once of these days I'll replace the darn thing.

Yea, the skids and wear bar are already starting to wear pretty good on mine. I plan on getting the Heavy Duty Polaris skids and wear bar this spring... unless I need them before that.
As far as the winch, I have the Warn winch and haven't had any problems... except with the cable, and that will be taken care of shortly with a new synthetic rope.

This is my 3rd winter with a Glacier plow and I use it more than 3 hours a day when I plow. I don't know how you could possibly wear it out that fast. I assume you aren't going WOT down a freeway. No problems with my winch so far either.

I just had my plow off.I had just enough wear on the skids to see.Wear bar fine.So far the Polaris winch works fine, but I'm useing a contactor that I had from another winch.I figuired I'd burn this one up then I have a new back-up to put in when needed.

Yeah, it wasn't the contactor, it was the winch that was bad. Easy to check, just use a test light to the correct pole and if there is power when you push the in switch and the winch doesn't move then it's the winch. Polaris replaced the winch and now works fine. It was out of warranty but they covered the cost. All I had to pay was for them to put it on. (Said they had to for warranty reasons) As for the wear bar, yeah I could buy $90.00 worth of new heavy duty wear bars and skid shoes but they should last longer than this. (the dealer here is out of both) I have been doing the same plowing with my Honda Rancher and Cycle country plow that have lasted much better.

Yeah...I agree with Frank. (WOT down a Freeway...ROTFLMFAO)
I'm on my second winter with mine. I plow like every 3 days on average in the winter, depending on snowfall. If it snows, I plow it.
Half of what I plow is Blacktop,
and the other half is gravel. I also plow some other driveways around here.
It usually takes me about an hour for all of it. I have zero wear on anything.
I guess it would depend on what your plowing and how often.
It is important to adjust the skids so the plow rides right, but other than that,
it would appear that something is wrong. I bought a Warn winch, but I do know several people who bought the Polaris winch and had to replace their contacter.
