Default just bought a 2006 500 x2

just went for my first ride to test it out in the snow......first things i noticed...i love the feel and comfort of the polaris...i'm a dirtbike guy myself and needed to do something in the winter time up here in upstate ny.....the atv has almost 500 miles and i had a couple of problems with it on the ride today...it over heated a couple of times and had to stop to let it cool off....is this normal in the snow since its working alittle harder? i'm going to take it apart tomorrow to check and clean the radiator and make sure everything is up to par....the other thing i noticed is that the lower ball joints are toast....and at only 500miles i'm surprised to see this...is this common??...i have beefer itp 26inch tires on it.....and last but not least....can i do a few things to get more hp out of this atv??...i was thinking of getting a k&n filter but didnt want to make it too loud

I can only comment on the snow issue. I have an 08 500 x2 and use it for plowing and pulling my fish house out on the ice. And if the weather isn't too cold, I do some light trail riding with it. Mine has NEVER overheated. I have about 600 miles on mine and it runs like a champ. I would check fluid levels then check to make sure that there is no buildup of mud, dirt, ect on the radatior.

Afternoon linkandcuff
No, it should not over heat. Is the fan running? Can you move the fan blade? I once had a stick stuck in mine. Open the radiator cap and let it run and see if the water is flowing after it warms up.

I had a quad overheat after riding it in deep snow. The radiator was blocked pretty bad when the snow plugged up the whole front end. Other than that it shouldn't oveheat.

fyi, you don't need to take off the the plastic around the lights to take off the top box, also there's 2 torx screw underneath the fenders
if you do any dust riding, I wouldn't get a K&N, IMO they let in way too much crap through
