850 2nd Ride
#1
Went for 2nd ride on 850 today. Went 22.6 miles in 5.5 hrs and ran out of gas unloading at home. Was hoping to be able to hit 40 or 50 miles on a tank, 6-12" of snow doesn't help, so mpg should improve alot. Front end started to rachet pulling up hills, not sure if I've got a problem or snow is causing wheel hop? Also getting clunking sound in front end decending. I'll look into it after it thaws out. I rode with 2 Scramblers and 1 brand new 700 Prairie and a old 650 Prarie. They all rode he 850 and loved it, said it rides like a Cadillac. I'd have to agree after riding theirs. Swamplites work very well, went up alot of steep heavily wooded hills with 12" of snow and logs without getting stuck very often.

I hope it gets decent mileage on solid ground. I like to go for 50-100 mile rides. It will likely be a couple years before I buy anything but I'm leaning toward the 550 anyway. I would get stupid with the kind of power the 850 has.

Yikes... that's around 5 MPG... something doesn't sound right.
Yes, keep us posted on the front end noise. Could be those crappy "Terriblethons" spinning in the snow. LOL

mag150 isn't running the terriblethons!
He's running the 27" swamplites.</end quote></div>
Yep, there I go again not reading "everything". I would think the Swamplites would be much better than the stockers. Doesn't sound good with the good tires on there.

Hour meter had exactly 4hrs run time, so we averaged 4.91 mph and 1.125 gph which isn't too bad considering conditions. Sure wish I would've had my brushguards on, just doesn't look the same anymore.

Not saying you are this way, but I realized I was being too paranoid with it being a first year machine I would stress over every little noise that might be a problem...and the XP is one of the quietest, smoothest machines out there, but I could still find a odd noise now and then. I decided now, especially since I have the 2 year warranty,I am going to just ride it until something really breaks,I don't sweat a little pop here and there,it's under warranty. I do my maintenance and inspect the machine, but when I get on it I am not cutting it any slack...
With that said your clunking when descending, does it do it once as you start to descend or does it do it all the way down the hill, is it rythmic or random?
Is it a clunk or a pop..mine will start doing a metallic pop right as you start down the hill..when it does that I know it is time to lube the suspension..
