polaris winches Suck

The warn can do the same thing. The switches go bad and they have plastic gears. I haven't had a problem with mine or the warns I have had, but have seen where the warns have caused trouble.

The one main difference is that any of the ones that say Polaris on them have a 1 year over the counter warranty. A warn, you have to send to them to be repaired unless you buy the parts and fix it yourself.

My 2007 500 X2 with the Polaris winch has problems as well!
It will always go "out" but hardly ever works to retract. It is a pain in the butt!
I have to constantly hit the "out" switch a couple of times before the "in" finally works.
Of course this causes lots of slack in the cable and can even end-up with the cable winding backwards. This gives a reversal of rotation. "in" is out, and "out" is in!
I had the dealer replace the winch at the end of last winter season under warranty. The first time I go to do any plowing this year, it acts up again. They also replaced the steel cable with the synthetic rope.
This year, the dealer goes out of business and i have to find another! I have a two year warranty, so will need to get this sorted out soon.
I hear the contactor clicking when I press the "in" button, so I am assuming the switch is fine. Is it difficult to locate the contactor? Does anyone have a wiring diagram?
It is currently -20 out, so I will have to wait a few days to tackle this.
Thanks!

The Polaris winches prior to 09 are Warn winches. Don't let anyone tell you different.
If it has the red strap, it's a warn. The new Polaris ones have the orange strap on the hook.

Roofer- Polaris winches started in 07. Why do you think they were all warn prior? Polaris started their own winches in 07. My 07 deluxe has a POLARIS winch. It is all black and has a orange polaris strap on it.

Wow, I didn't know that. All the 07's up here came with Warn/Polaris winches. I thought for sure it was the same in 08 also.

After a little looking I see that Polaris did offer this winch. They just stopped having the Warn/Polaris winch for '09. Sorry for the confusion.
The stealth models in 07 came with Warn/Polaris winches.

The LE comes with the winch as part of the package. It would not be an add on accesory then. So since I got a 5 years warranty with mine, would it cover the winch for 5 years?
Also doesn't the Browning come with a winch? Most got a 2 year warranty extention for free.
