I WOULD LIKE TO THANK ALL WHO GAVE ME SUCH GREAT INFO WITH MY SPEEDO DILEIMA . HAVEN'T FIXED IT BUT PARTS ARE ON ORDER .IN THE MEAN TIME I WAS OUT RIDING MY 00 SPORTSMAN DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY AND NOTICED A CLICKING SOUND COMING FROM TOWARD THE FRONTEND. I DON'T THINK THE HUBS ARE ENGAGING CAUSE WHEN I TRIED REVERSE IT DIDN'T STEER AS IF 1 HUB WAS LOCKED. ALL THIS IS IN 2WD MODE. I ALSO TRIED 4WD WITH THE SAME RESULTS. ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS OCCURANCE.(I DIDN'T WANT TO GIVE THE IMPRESSION OF A PROLBEM . THATS HOW NASTY BASHIN RUMORS GET STARTED .) ALSO CHECKED THE FREE PLAY IN THE U-JOINTS IN THE FRONTEND AND ALL ARE TIGHT . I DON'T THINK ITS ANYTHING SERIOUS BUT IT'S A ANNOYING SOUND.
THANKS,
VIC

How old is this SP500??...It could be your wheel bearings, check them...I had the same problem, a constant clicking niose, the bearing was toast. They don't cost much so no worries

If it isn't the bearings then it must be the drive-train...I know nothing about polaris's drive-trains so can't help you there.

if the front brake pads are loose they could also cause noise..there is an adj screw on the caliper to tighten but dont tighten too much as to cause excessive pad wear..just a possiblity

To check them, prop the ATV up so the front wheels are in the air then wiggle the tire in and out with both hands on the tire, and if the tire moves in and out then you have a problem.

To replace bearings- You just have to take off the tire and then there should be a big bolt in the middle to take off the brake housing that should be there...but I'm not totally sure on the Sportsman's what there is to take off so someone else has to help you there.

I agree on the brake pads being loose. Sometimes they rattle around in the caliper and make a noise. Sometime when turning more one way than the other. It has happens to others than just the Sportsmans. We learned the hard way by practicly dismantling a 325 Magnumn before we found the problem. I dont think it will hurt anything other than get on your nerves.
You can check to be sure by slightly applying the brakes when you hear the noise and see if it goes away.

LIFTED ALL 4 WHEELS OFF THE GROUND, CHECKED THE FRT. WHEELS SEEM TO BE TIGHT NO PLAY , CRANKED HER UP AND PROCEEDED TO SPIN THE TIRES IN 2WD OFF THE GROUND. NO NOISE. TRIED IT IN 4WD. HEARD A LITTLE NOISE ,I COULD BE JUST WORRIED SHE TURNS 1 ON THE 25TH OF THIS MONTH AND WAS PLANNING ON 25 OR 26 INCH OUTLAWS W/ BILLET AL. WHEELS FOR HER BIRTHDAY.
NOT TO SURE WHAT TO DO . HATE TO GO TO MY FRIENLY POLASS (THATS CORRECT) THAT WANTED TO RIP ME A NEW ONE ON A SERVICE MANUAL THAT I HAVEN'T HAD ANY LUCK FINDING. WELL THANKS FOR THE HELP ONCE AGAIN .

HAPPY TRAILS,
VIC

atvman,
The Sportsman front hubs are completely seal so it is no prone to bearing failure like your Honda. (As long as the Hub seals are good)

Sportsman005,
I have a practically brand new set of Outlaws for sale. I used them once. The **** are still on them. They are monted on black and chrime ITP rims. All for $525 (2 26X10-12) and (2 26X12-12)

They do require spacers. I will sell the tires seperately if necessary.

You can e-mail me at gregsims01@excite.com

JUST A SUGGESTION - CHECK YOU CHAIN AND FRONT SPROCKET. IF YOU HAVE A ROLLER OR TWO GOING BAD THAT WILL CAUSE CLICKING NOISES.
