Changing the oil filter for the first time myself.

when putting the new oil filter on i noticed the hole with an abnormal shape.

is this normal for polaris?

I don,t have a 700 but it sure looks like it belonges there.

 

the shape is abnormal and the metal is thin. appears to be bad casting?

 

Well summerjack if it weren't for the hole you would burn up the engine , this hole is the return route to circulate the filtered oil through the system.

 

i realize it is a return but the odd shape and this metal was a concern.

any comments

 

summerjack the main reason for the odd shape of the return port/hole is to make it big enough for a high flow rate , and also to keep from milling the port/hole to close to the center of the input port/hole where the oil filter screw's on ; it's faster and doesn't require milling more than one return port/hole in the engine casing !.....
