Highoctane, what speed have you got your XP up to in Lo gear? Will it do 39mph in Lo like Polaris states?

You know I haven't even checked....I'm probably going back out here in a bit,i'll see.
Of course the larger tires will affect it some but we should be able to tell if it's close.

it means loos of traction. as long as al the tires a spinning the same speed then the gears are sync'ed up.

I stop before using that switch also. If the tires are turning then I don't shift or change drive modes.

I'm pretty sure you can shift between 2wd and 4wd as long as all tires are moving at the same speed. Safest is to come to a stop. Another thing with the PoPos is that when in AWD it switches off and on automatically when in AWD. So, if you aren't in a situation where there is tire spin it will switch over to 2wd.

Switching from 2 to 4 and back on the fly is perfectly fine UNLESS the tires are spinning..ie loosing of traction..rear tires turning faster than the front. It is design to switch on the fly wihtout stopping. Switching does nothing but power up the AWD coil..the fronts don't start pulling until the rears are spinning faster than the fronts. So if you are stuck..let out of the throttle and switch to prevent the front from engaing under a severe shock load. Under all other normal riding if you decide you might need 4wd just switch it. I switch 2wd to 4wd on the fly all the time..doesn't hurt a thing.

Also of note,on the older Sportsmans, and I suspect something similar on the XP as well,AWD will not engage with RPM above 3100. So if you are above 3100 and you switch it will not engage until you let the engine RPMs drop below 3100.

This is just one more reason that I want an XP... the "higher - low range". When plowing at 7 or 8 mph in low with my 500, the engine is wound up pretty high. I'm thinking that the RPM's will be a bit lower with the XP at the same speed.
