Default 2003 Predator Oil Line Question - Confused

Okay guys, I need some help. I've been rebuilding this 2003 Predator from the ground up. I've almost got it back together (someone else torn it down, I bought it from them) and since I've not worked with a 4-stroke engine like this that has a separate oil tank, I can't figure out where the oil hose that comes out of the top of the tank routes to? My best guess is that it is an overflow line and connect to the right-angle pipe that comes out of the top side of the clutch cover. Does that sound right? I don't want to guess on something like an oil line.

Any help would be appreciated.

Also, as a side question, does the short right-angle filter & hose that comes out of the top of the carburetor go into the breather pipe that connects to the air box, or does it just sit next to it?

thanks again!

I believe that you are referring to the vent line that connects the oil tank to the airbox. See section 3.9-3.10 of the factory manual. I have the 2003 Polaris factory manual available in pdf format if you need it. Note that it is a large file.

Thanks. I do have the manual and looked at that page. Your right, that vent line that comes out of the top of the oil tank appears to go to the air box. Now I can't determine where the hose that is connected to the right angle pipe on the back side of the clutch cover should go. Any ideas?

I think that connects the oil filter to the oil tank. Check photo #2 on page 3.26 of the manual. Forward of the oil filter cover, and at the extreme front of the engine, is the thermostat and cover. It connects to the radiator.

The pipe I'm talking about is at the top of the clutch cover. It can barely be seen in photo #2 on page 3.26 in the upper left-hand corner. I'll try to take a picture.

The right-angle pipe in this picture is the one that is confusing me.

I can't determine where it goes.

I think what I've learned is that the pipe coming out of the top of the oil tank in this picture Oil Tank
goes to the air box.

Default 2003 Predator Oil Line Question - Confused

I just looked at your pics and my '04---the right angle pipe connects to a rubber hose that goes around the engine, up under the frame, and down to the vertical nipple on the oil tank!
I don't have the side covers off, so I can't tell if there is a "T" in the tube that connects it to the airbox. I need to do some maintenance on my Preddy this weekend, so I will take the side cover off and get a better look at that time. Seeing as you got your Preddy in "kit form", did you receive a long rubber, oily, hose that fits as stated above?

Thanks for your help. That is good to know. I'm wondering now, like you, if there is a t-fitting in that line. I don't see one in the parts diagram though.

When I got it the entire thing was disassembled. Most of the hoses were there but hoses on those two fittings were missing.

I'll be interested to see if you find anything differently. Do you have a hose coming out of the top of the crankcase (just under the carb) that goes to the airbox?

I'll get back to you this weekend--after I've got the sidecovers off, and can take a good look. Let me know if you have other questions; might be able to send you some digital photos.
In the meantime, have you cruised/joined the Predator Owners Group at: http://www.predatorowners.com/

You can probably find answers to your Q's there.

Thanks for the link. I'll check this site out. I fired up my rebuilt Predator for the first time tonight (just for a few seconds) and it ran great. I don't plan on running it longer than that though until I'm certain about these oil lines and get the oil pump primed.
