Default 02 700 Twin

I was 20 min into a night ride when I noticed my temp gauge was flashing. The coolant
levels were perfect before ride and use polaris anti freeze.I stopped and noticed that the fan was not turning on but I could spin the fan by hand.I waited for machine to cool down and then topped up the rad with creek water and tried to ride it back home
with rad cap loose and I got about 200 yards and it started to heat up again but this time the fan had turned on when I stopped.I topped the rad back up for the second time and was able to ride out in low gear with rad cap loose. Any Idea's out there?

why did you keep putting water into it? was it spitting antifreeze out from over heating? check the radiator (both sides, front and back) to see if its plugged at all.

well if you say your fan wasnt running then it could be a combo of the fan stoppedworking(just a small rock of twig can stop them) and maybe a partialy plugged radiator.if you put alot of watere in it make sure you get back the balance or least a 50/50 anti freeze water mix for correct cooling. hopefully it didnt get hot enough to take out the head gasket or warp the head. if you didnt drive very far w/ it overheated it shouldnt be an issue.
