Looking at adding a winch to my 800 Sportsman and was wondering would a 2500lb suffice? Do I need a mounting plate or will it bolt right up. Also, any input on Gorilla and Eagle winches.

yes you will need a mount. i got mine from KFI on ebay. there made in mn. awsome fit. great price. think i payed $40 or so. i also got my winch (warn) off ebay. paid $220 for it and it was new. never had a problem. also the bigger the winch you get the more power its gona used under full load. i have a 3000lb. and the atv cant keep up with it when the headlights and alot of other items are on. havent really had a problem during the day when nothing is on. id say get a warn winch. or buy what ur allowed to spend. but i dont have much info on other winches other than warn and super winch. im shure other users have info on them.

good luck

Go Gorilla--a 3000# waterproof winch is only $110, including a wired remote and shipping when purchased on E-bay.

I really wanted a WARN winch when I purchased my 2008 Suzuki King Quad 400---the Warn winch was a no charge option at the time.

I took a really good, long, look at the Warn winch at the dealership...and the Warn winch was made in China--just like the Gorilla winch. I opted for an additional $300 discount at the dealership instead of the Warn winch, and bought the Gorilla winch noted above seperately. I bought the winch mounting plate at the Gorilla website. Gorilla combined the E-bay purchased winch and the mounting plate from their website into one order.

Everything has worked out great--the winch has been super. No regrets.

I have the 2500 Warn and have had no issues. I have used it on my SP450 before I
upgraded to my SP800. I have used it on both in the few years I have had it with
NO issues. I can't speak for others but mine has held up with no maintenance or repairs!

I do agree with Stendori and others if I had the hindsight and $$$ I would of went with
the 3000lb just because if your stuck deep its weight plus resistance. I STILL NEED TO
buy a ****** BLOCK to gain double the pulling power.

Hey I don't have the synthetic winch rope but does that work well with the ****** BLOCK?

I also bought my winch plates from kfi products.com they are made thicker and stronger than oem mounting plates i luv my warn xt2500 but im putting that on the 500 and putting a xt3000 lb on my 700. The xt has the synthetic rope and the rt have the steele cable i like the syn rope much better, less snap back no steele splinters no kincking and just as strong as steele I would say go with a mount from KFI and a warn xt3000lb but if money is a issue a 2500lb would certainly do the job. I have heard alot of bad things about gorrilla winches not much about eagle and superwinch not very good. If not a warn then a viper or venom they are the lower cost version of a warn and they have a excellent customer service dept from everything i've heard and read.

Hope any of this helps GOOD LUCK.
