850 XP are they really all that?
Rockjohn..I have to admit I agree about having a hard time believing Polaris made the XP..I joke around and say they hired German Engineers to design it(sorry, lol) No offense,I'm American through and through but if you have ever owned a old school Mercedes you know what I mean. Ok the XP isn't that good, but you get the point.
The tire's durability isn't what is getting the gripes..it is the wet traction. I agree it is a good smooth trail tire..but get it on a wet trail,at least the trails I ride, and it's not so great anymore..

We both HATED it - even though we both love the PS on the Griz. As DavidXP posted above - if felt like there was too much assistance & absolutly no feedback from the ground.
Anyways, the XP without PS is damn close to the Griz with PS. The Griz is easier, but not by much. If you are someone who does a significant amount of tight techincal stuff, the PS may be a better choice.</end quote></div>
I pretty much agree with that (except the "hate" part). LOL
I felt the same way about the 850 EPS that I had a chance to ride. I actually preferred the EPS on the Grizz better than the XP. However... and this is a big however, if one is going to go to bigger tires with a much wider stance, the EPS on the XP would probably be a great option.
I'm leaning towards the non-EPS XP. Sure would like to see Polaris but better skins on it though.

Hey, I'm part German... I agree with that statement 100%
Then again, I'm also part American Indian... so I'm torn. LOL LOL

That is a pretty bold statement! IMO I think my Grizz is a better overall machine than any Polaris I have owned or ridden but I would never be so biased to say so.
</end quote></div>
Well the topic WAS Polaris 800 vs 850..but here we go as usual..Dodge no one even mentioned the Grizz..one guy says the 850 is the best machine going and you have to defend your choice to buy a Grizz...lol..
I'm glad you love it but comparing it to an XP the majority of riders would prefer the XP...read around, guys from brands are moving to the XP..I'll tell you I am not brand loyal..if I need a new machine and another company has something that clearly trumps the XP.that will be my new ride..</end quote></div>
I was not defending my choice I was making a statment to the fact that the XP is the best quad on the market! Trust me I am not knoking the XP as comptition is a good thing. Allways has been but when all you read about are these people who swear up and down by one machine there is something wrong! The ones that believe there is only one brand of ATV on the market are missing the bigger picture and francly I feel sorry for them. Kinda like Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge LOL get over it already!!!!!!!

850 XP are they really all that?
Looked at a 2009 850 at the St. Louis Boat show a few weeks ago. The salesman turned the key on and said "try the steering" UNBELIEVABLE!!! Like turning the handlebars on a bicycle. Just bought my 800 last fall. New leftover 07 Delux. Only had it out twice, and wish I could sell it to buy that 850. Besides the steering, with the engine turned sideways it is more comfortable than my 800. Still love my 800, but if the chance comes along I'll have to change my name to Oldman850!!!

This was not about the BRAND..it was about a paticular model..you brought the brand into it..the guy said that the Polaris 850 XP is the best ATV on the market..that is not a statement about what is best for Dodge57Hemi.. if you consider majority opinion I would venture to say he is right. Could that change at anytime? Of course it could..but right now you have to admit the 850 XP is top dog...you may like your Grizz better, and I am glad you are happy with it..but that does not mean it is a better machine..In my mind the what makes a better machine, other than the obvious quality stuff,is how many people rate them as the best machine..you know a majority vote. Now obviously I do not have hard numbers but I must say the XP is getting ALOT of attention..way more than the Grizz ever has. There are some die hard brand X guys dumping their machines to get an XP...brand loyalty only goes so far..these guys are not doing this based on "hype" they are seeing the machine in action and riding them for themselves and they know a winner when they ride it. Next year could likely bring a machine/brand that de-thrones the XP..and I hope it does if Polaris can't keep the XP ahead of the pack..like you said competition is a good thing. But for now a guy could be pretty confident in saying the Polaris XP is the best utility ATV on the market..
