So the 800 mill is out of the running for you?? Can't remember now, but does the 500 motor have a recoil assembly on it? I just don't understand why the 800 mills do not have that option, who cares about the addtl weight when you're approaching 1000 LBs for a machine?? I was told when I purchased my 800 X2 , POO was shaving weight. Go for the 550X2, never a problem when riding 2 up

I just bought a 550xp with eps, it is by far the best i have ridden. I would get the eps if you plan on going on some long trail rides, you can ride forever with it, and virtually eliminates steering kick-back.

Just to update, I got a 09 red 550 XP and couldn't be happier! Even without the EPS the steering is MUCH improved over my '96 500
