Default 2004 ranger 4x4

why would these valves develop negative clearance and stay open?

They tighten because of valves wearing at face of valve and pushing up which decreasing clearance. IF a valve stays open with no pressure from cam,THEN problems,IF this is what you are talking about(bent valve)

Thanks they dont seem to be bent, but are being held open as if they were adjusted wrong but not the case, they are open atleast .01 not seating at all.
