oil in the air box

i took my air box cover off the other day and the box had about 1/2 inch of oil in it . anybody tell me why

oil in the air box

could have blow by in the cylinder causing excess oil pressure in the crankcase causing it to spurt up into the air box ( usually has a vent tube that goes to the air box) or could have gas in the oil or too much oil
