Is this a good buy?and your opinions of this machine

I'm looking at a 2004 Sportsman 400 with a plow, winch and sprayer that has about 800 miles and 124 hours, they are asking $3500. I've had a polaris in the past (Trail Boss 330) and had some issues with it, some were due to an over indulgence in mud, but am a little bit wary of them due to other issues I had. I like this because it has accessories I want and don't want to have to purchase new and install later. I ride an LTZ400 usually, but want something to putt around on when I take the kids out, something my wife can ride when we all go, and something for work around the yard, esp. snow removal. the machine looks pretty clean and fires right up but haven't done a thorough inspection yet. I'd like to hear from you other Polaris guys as to your opinion on '04 sportsman 400's and wether or not you think this is a good buy. Thanks for your time reading this!

If you mcould get it for $3000.00 then I would jump on it. jmo</end quote></div>
That was kinda my thought, just wanted to make sure they weren't problematic machines, I've read that they need to be re jetted (too rich stock) and I'm not crazy about the lack of a motor brake, but could deal with those if they are te only real issues with them

I too have been looking for an answer to that question, what are the tell tale differences between the 04 and 04.5? I have an 04, and I'm pretty sure it's an 04, not 04.5, but not sure.
Anyhow, I haven't had any issues with my 400, actually I like it alot. It rides smooth, has reasonable power, serves the purpose I bought it for.
I currently am having a belt issue, other than that, good to go. I bought mine new, and have no mods other than a K&N air filter.

Here are a few of the differences: 04.5 has digital fuel gauge in pod, 6 ply radial tires, & the front end might have been different as well..Might be missing something as well.

I think the 04.5 is when the went from the locking two hubs to the single plastic roller cage front diff set up and added the EMC, both bad ideas. Hope its a 04.
