Will a 2002 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab fit a Sportsman 500?
#1
I know the tailgate would have to stay down but I don't know if the front wheels will fit inbetween the wheel wells.
From my rough measurement it seems to be off an inch or two.. anyone have a dodge dakota quad cab in that bodystyle that would know?
I don'twant to go buy the equipment to ride it into the cab if it wont fit.
Thanks in advance.

I have an 01 Dakota Quad Cab (love the truck!), and without actually measuring, I would say the answer is no. My wife's Hawkeye will fit, but it barely goes between the wheelwells, and the tailgate has to be down for it. My Sportsman makes the Hawkeye look like a kids machine so I have my doubts. You can always get a trailer, make it a lot easier to load, and trust me, you'll love the Quad Cab.

Still can build make shift ramps to send the front wheels over the wheel wells in the bed, no biggie, plus then you have something blocking the ATV wheels while transporting!!

You can get a 48" piece of plywood between the wheel wells, so assuming it is the stock width, then yes it will fit between the wheel wells. The length is what I would worry about. Get a folding 4'x8' trailer from HARBOR FREIGHT for $250- for the frame wheels and lights and put a 4'x8'x3/4" green treat floor($28). Then you bed would be free for other things. When you don't need the trailer, fold it and store along your garage wall.

Yes. Mine fits in my Toyota and the Dakota is larger than my truck. You will have to travel with the tailgate down.

I've put my 02 500 sportsman w/ 25" stock size tires in my 2000 Dak Quad cab a bunch of times. It fits fine. It fits tight. You will not get even close to getting the tailgate up... not a big deal. Pads of the tires don't rest fully on the tailgate. The front tires rub ever so slightly on my bed liner as it goes between the wheel wells.
NOTE: I built a "batter board" out of a 2x6 stood up by 4x4 legs that rests against the front of the bed and holds the front tires back a bit so the winch can't get anywhere near the back glass. I suppose that loading backwards may work... but I'm not sure that the rear tires would fit between the wheel wells.

The quick short answer is NO. That is a lot of bed weight for a Dakota and I would personaly recommend a trailer for that purpose!!! Ever seen what a Polaris Sportsman (Or any Quad) will do to you when it falls off a tailgate??? Lets just say it's NOT pretty!
