Default Polaris Xpress cranks but won't start

Hello,

I am a lady that is only a little mechanically inclined so please bear with me. I have a 1998 Polaris Xpress 300 that was starting up and running just fine until I let me daughter ride it and she went through some mud....fast. Some of it caked up underneath. The atv died shortly after and now can not be started. This is what I've done so far. I checked the spark plug, it was wet and a little oily but it did put off a little spark (not sure how big it has to be). To be sure it wasn't the spark plug, I replaced it with a brand new one and still only a little spark. Next I put a little gas directly into the carberator, tried to start and still nothing. I then took the battery off and charged it. I put it back on and now it sounds like the engine is just spinning, and there is no spark coming from the spark plugs. I am at a loss. Any advice is greatly appreciated...thanks in advance.
