Sluggish start on Sportsman
#1
I've got an 05 Sportsman 600 and its always been a sluggish starter. Everybody tells me Polaris are cold blooded. But even when its warm it always takes a least a few turns of the key to start. How can this be improved? What things can I do? Any help would be appreciated!

Have you replaced fuel filter, spark plugs, air filter, cleaned carb, used seafoam. does your fuel sit around alot, could be timing but not sure, good battery clean cables and ground. I'm not a great mechanic but if it where me this is what i would try this first

Agreed with the others...
Change the air filter.
Clean or change the pre-filter on the air filter.
Change the fuel filter.
Use a good fuel system cleaner/additive.
Change the plug... try the NGK Iridium plug for your machine.

Seafoam, no. What is that? No to the fuel filter (have to find it), will be replacing air filter today, and not sure how to clean the carb, and just changed the spark plugs. I'd love to know where the fuel filter is. Thanks for the advice!!

Here instuction on cleaning a carb http://www.ripperd.com/ftp/admins/carb_rebuild/
Its a round slide not a CV but the choke pludger and bottom bowl/jets are the same procedure.
I,m on a sled forum were they will not even answer a question about hard starts until the carbs cleaned first.

the fuel filter is just above and to the right of your left front tire. it is a little white plastic tube clamped between the fuel lines. it only costs about 3$ if i remember right. if this is not real clear pm me and i will get you a pic.

My advise is to learn how to maintain everything on your quad that you can. It will pay dividends down the road.
