I use a Mobil 1 M-110 on my 500 HO - I work for the company that makes the filter. Don't believe all of the marketing hype about filters and the so called studies. There is a lot of factors that go into the performance of an oil filter.

I use Wix or Napa and I use Mobil 1 0W 40W motor oil and change it every 50 hours. (Wix makes NAPA) I use Polaris fluids for everything else.

 

Would love to hear what those factors are that all the studies have missed. About the only thing that's important that most studies haven't listed... is the micron filtration efficiency and flow rate. Obviously, those are two things to consider.

 

Me too, and the Wix filters are one of the better choices.

BTW, some of the Polaris filters (maybe all) seem to be made by Napa/Wix.

With a Wix filter, you can be pretty sure that you are getting a Wix filter every time. On the other hand, Polaris can change suppliers at the drop of a coin.

The filters for the 600, 700 and 800's are the same as the 400 and 500's, the only diff. is that there just a little longer and will handle a little more psi.. With it being alittle longer you have more filtering.

 

Besides OEM any suggestions for a 850?

 

Ive been running Fram Filters and Valvoline oil since 1976 and have never had an oil related problem ever.

 

In several of the studies, there is a belief that if the media is thicker or a filter has more pleats, it is automatically better. That is far from the truth, there are several grades of media and thickness has little to due with performance. A filter with more pleats, usually has a lower grade media and is meeting performance specs with extra pleats. Some media sheets have a high first pass efficiency with poor capacity to hold contamination. It is a real balancing act. The best filters in the market are the filters with 100% synthetic media (amsoil / royal pruple / fleetguard / Luberfiner HD/ exc....) - most of these are large filters for commercial use. The Mobil 1 filter has a very good performance synthetic blend media, it is very good at it's price point. Most any filter out there is good enough to do the job, the dirty little secret in the industry is that a premium filter can't really be justified in the long run. Stay away from some of non name brand off-shore stuff - I have seen some that have very shoddy construction. All 4 of the major US filter manufactures make good filters, they all can be used with confidence.
