Need help with 03 predator 500
#1
I recently added a 2003 predator 500 to my collection of race quads. I got it with the knowledge of a few problems but they are enought to stump me. First off when the quad is running every 6-8 seconds the engine has a short cut (1/4 second, sounds like its gonna quit) but it catches itself and continues running. It always does this every 6-8 seconds. And when the key is on and its sitting in Neutral (not running) you can see the light dim for 1/4 second and come back on (every 6-8 seconds apart). Whats up with that?
Also when I turn my bars the engine reves up really high, I thought it was the throttle cable being routed wrong but it seems to have enough slack in it. Any imput on this?
And finally it seems to backfire a lot, the previous owner said it was jetted for a 2 brothers exhaust but all it has is the polaris pure without a spark arester. What should I do here?
Thanks for any help, im not too familiar yet with these polaris quads.

By Polaris Pure are you talking about a stock pipe, or the White Brothers Pure Polaris Pipe? I would check your plug and see if you are running rich or lean and go from there. Once you get it jetted right it is time to move on to your next problem. I would check the battery, it sounds like something electrical if it is doing it while it is not running. Someone with a better knowledge of the electrical system could maybe help you out with this, there are a few electrical gurus here. Maybe even make another post just for this one. I dont know much about it. As for the throttle, the cable has slack but maybe it is hitting a point where it will not slide anymore and by turning the bars your a putting more throttle to it. I would get another throttle cable. You could also take it off the quad and lube it really good and work it back and forth. See if it is able to slide back and forth like it should.
