I was hoping to use a Polaris lock and ride rear cargo box on my 500 Sportsman but unfortunately my chainsaw won't fit in it.

I had initially looked at various rear drop racks but I would lose my rear bumper and access to the rear storage compartment.

Has anyone found a suitable storage box to just bolt to the rear rack? Something like a small aluminum diamond plate toolbox for pickup trucks/trailers or a plastic footlocker. It does have to lock and only has to be waterproof against rain as I do not plan to submerge the ATV.

Any other recommendations?

 

walmart sells a decent fibre box for like $45. it locks, but could be easily broken into if anything of value was left in it. if you store the quad outside, i;d just take the stuff out of it when you park it. think i might grab one when i get sent back to work.

 

I added a utility rack to the back of my touring. It bolts into the rear frame (no drilling) and I can put a storage box and/or several gas cans on it if I need it. It doesn't block the lights or access to the storage compartment. You can mount it in a few minutes. It even worked with the rear bumpers mounted (uses the same holes).

You won't be able to just throw the chainsaw into the basket, but I'm sur eyou could mount a box, or just sling it off the back.

It's not cheap, but it does not impede anything else and looks stock.
