Default 01 Magnum 325 Help

I was recently given a Magnum 325 by a uncle (he bought a new one, said he could never get his old one to work).

After weeks of fixing stuff on it i was able to get it started and running, now im having issues with the shifter, when the engine is in idle and i try to change from N to H or L the shifter will grind against something (not sure what), but if you turn off the engine and shift into H or L and restart the bike it works fine.

Would anyone know why im unable to shift while in idle ? Sometimes it works but 98% of the time it dont.

Thanks

Is it idling to high? The tranny has linkage rods that go to the tranny that have adjusters on them, you could try fooling with those also.

polaris models like to be shifted firm and not slowly as sometimes they do grind.

One more question, im looking to buy a battery since the one thats in there is pretty old (looks like the original one), are the ones from walmart good ? I found one for $40.00. What type of charger would i need ? Any good store fronts to buy battery's at ? Nationwide stores, etc ?

As long as the battery has the proper dementions to fit in your ATV's battery cradle its fine. Maybe wall mart will charge it up for you if you ask a auto store will for sure.?

Is not hard though, you fill the battery holes with there bottle of stuff they give you and charge it for 2-3 hours I think? Easy instuctions to follow comes with it.

Your shifting issue sounds like a clutch problem.Worn out belt, dirty or worn clutches, alignment,or broken motor mount.

I have a 01 Magnum 325 and if the idle is to high it will grind the gears bad when you try to put it in gear. All in all it has been a good wheeler I have put many many miles on it. Just remember it has a solid rear axle so it does not have the ground clearance of the sportsman's. My 08 500 will go a lot better in the rough stuff

I have a 00 Magnum 325 that grinds also. I'm tring to fix it. I have replaced the pri spring and belt. I even keep old belt on it that has over 2" of play and it still grinds. The secondary clutch runs all the time while in 'N', even with lowering the idle down to where it will die. I have removed belt and spin the secondary clutch. It spins free. When I spin it it just keeps spinning. The belt is so lose and by it just setting on the primary drive it spins the seconday. Is it normal for the transmittion to spin freely or should it have a little resentance to keep it from spinning just by belt seating lose on pri. clutch drive?
