Hawkeye 300 power
Hey Guys,
I bought a 07 Hawkeye 2x4 for my wife, which essentially gets no use at this time.I have my own atvs, so I haven't rode it on trails in 6 mos. and niether has she. It's had it's break in service, it gets started every week or so, as well as ridden around the front yard a couple times a month.
Today I took it out to the foothills behind my house, the thing was gutless. During the break in period when I rode it there, it seemed fairly peepy, but of course it wasn't ridden too hard during the break in.
Going up a long gradual aprox. 25 to 30 degree grade at no more than 4000ft., it crawled and sputtered at full throttle.Going back down the grade it didn't sputter so much and had a little better power and at about 3000ft it would go about 35mph in 2 inches of sand near a river bed.
I know it's not a race quad, but are these things notoriously so gutless? The salesman said it was going to be faster than the 07 Trailboss 330 we used to have, but it sure doesn't feel like it.The movies back then on Polaris' website would show how the Hawkeye would out accelerate Recon & Ozark 250s, so I would have expected more.
Something has got to be wrong with this thing, any clues?

Thanks Mongrol,
The choke **** was all the way down, that was the 1st thing I checked. It did feel like that, so I'll play with it. 1/3 of the gas in the tank is 6 mos old 87 octane, I filled the rest up with 91 octane today. I'll check or have someone check out the carb and filters.Hopefully it's not a jetting issue, I've read the 06's had carb jetting issues.
That's a pretty neat looking rig you've got there, must be a blast up there in BC !

if your not running fuel stablizer and its been siting for 6 months w/ the same gas in it, then yes the gas can go bad enough to where it wont have much octang valve and going higher in altitude would make it worse. i know when they first came out they had to be rejected to run in high alt. just for that reasonso that be the issues as well. just a couple of guesses.

The salesman said it was going to be faster than the 07 Trailboss 330 we used to have
Polaris (2007)
Hawkeye 300=17 hp
trailblazer 330=19 hp
Phoenix 200=13 hp
sportsman 450=29.7 hp
Sportsman 500 Ho (carB) 34.5hp
Sportsman 500 EFI/x2/Scrambler 500=36 hp
Predator 500 = 48 HP
Outlaw 500 = 48.6 HP
700 EFI= 44 HP
800 EFI/ 800x2 = 50.2 HP
The 300 is a 45 mph ATV on hard flat ground 35 mph on softer sand sounds correct.
