it should be sitting pretty much about 1/8" above the secondary when its at idle or stopped. it would gradualy go down to the center ehn its reved upor picking up speed to shift out. when the rpms drop back dopwn it should come all the way back to the top of the secondary clutch.

ok so this other clutch i put on the belt sits probaly a quarter of the way up, this clutch came off a 2000 scrambler 500 2x4 so it should be the same as mine that is 1998 scrambler 4x4?? the old pully the belt sits nearly flush with the pully

are you refering to the belt sitting 1/4 the way up the primary(engine clutch) or the secondary clutch. yes the 2 clutches from an 00 to a 98' should be the same and shouldnt make the belt sit any differnt. when at rest (bike shut off) the belt should be sitting at the botom on the primary clutchon the center spacer of the clutch and sitting a little above on the secondary(transmission clutch). if thats what you mean

ya on the secondary clutch with engine off the belt sits 1/4 above, on the orginal clutch it was almost flush with the pully. not sure what to do about this cuz with the new one on even at idle the bike keeps going so by holding breaks on to stop it's probaly wearing my belt down.

ok looking at the 2 year clutches for a 500 scrambler they have the same springs. and weights even the part numbers are differnt on the clutches them selves. but it says a 98' will fit up thur to 02' so they basicly should be the same. if it was an ebs clutch(which if it came off an 00' according to the parts list is not one) it would have a one way bushing in the center of it and it would only turn one way. if the belt were too tight it would cause it too want to creep ahead.

no. i mean inside between the the 2 sheeves(you call it a pully) of the primary(front clutch)clutch where the belt rides on(you have to take the belt off to see and feel)in the center of the crome looking centerit would be a movable type bearing. but if it is a regular clutch like its supposed to be it will not have this.
