In some cases the K&N may increase performance by flowing more air than stock..but with most of the Polaris'..850's included the stock filter flows an adequate supply for an otherwise stock set up...the biggest benefit IMO is the fact that they resist moisture..I still put the paper back in in dusty enviroments..no one will convince me that a K&N filters as well as paper..JMO.

The Polaris prefilter works well with the K&N...

I have had a few people say that about k&n, Been looking into the uni filter seems like a good filter. Any input on the twin air filters have had good feedback on those. anybody using them?

I feel the foam filter does well in dusty conditions, but paper does work better because it isn't full of oil like the foams are. I also wouldn't trust the K&N where there is alot of dust.

Compared to my brute force it seems like the XP doesn't suck in near as much dust. I rode on a trail that was very dusty while riding behind others. I expected the air box and filter to be covered in dust, but it wasn't. It still looked really clean.

If I was to get an aftermarket filter it would be the UNI or Twin Air. The oil helps keep water out more, and it doesn't need a pre-filter like the K&N.

Dusty conditions, I would stick with the paper filter for sure. Anything else, I prefer the UNI or Twin Air.

I run a Uni on my bike. Sure nice to be able to clean it as required. And as said above, I don't think the Sportsman suck in very much dust at all. I have done some real dusty riding behind a train of other bikes and the filter was just fine after. It's impressive actually.
