Default Bat Elec issue?

Seems like when it rains it pours one issue after another but so far they have bee neas yfixes so I'm not complaining

When the engine is at idle speedo reads about 1-2 mph If I turn headlights on it goes to 5 when fan comes on it goes to 15

Winch doesnt work unless I rev it alittle

What would cause this ?

Oh yea and the battery wont hold a charge was fine yesterday I have to jump it to get it started

Thanks again

2001 sportsman 500 HO

load test battery, change if bad. check that charging is between 14-14.5 volts above idle back at battery. If not suspect reg/rectifier problem. Low voltage probably the source of your problems!

Thanks I will check out battery tomorrow. So you think bad battery is most likely my issue?

One thing I forgot and should add is this started after I disconnected the Neg term for a day

id say it would be a few issues. the battery if it dont hold a charge would be the biggest issue. and if the atv isent chrageing the battery. thats not good either. but i got an 08 500 sportsman. i plow during winter. if i have the headlights on, and my hand thumb warmers, along with the winch for up and down. the atv cant keep yup with the power demand. then soon as my fan comes on it flashes at me telling me if got a low battery. so then i have to wait, or try not to use the winch as much, or turn something off. the biggest issue i ran across is the atv dosent have a big enough stator... think they need to start adding altinators to these as they are being used alot more, and have more power options added to them these days.

Thanks I changed the battery out today and everything is back to normal and working correctly. One thing is I used a volt meter at the bat during idle and its 12.35 but that was 2 min after I bought it . I will check again and see if I get 14

it will not read right at idle. you need to actually rev the motor up to about 1300 rpms. your voltage should be around 13.5 to 15v
