insurance rates?

I live in Massachusetts where insurance is governed and regulated. This means that many companies choose not to do business here. Below is the coverage that I purchased through my local insurance agent.
For my 2009 Polaris 850XP EPS & 2009 Polaris 550XP EPS with Foremost Insurance Company this is what I pay and have for coverage.
The limits of liability are $100/300 (100,000 per person, no more than $300,000 per accident). $100,000 on property damage and $5,000 on medical payments.
With full coverage for both atvs with $500 deductibles for both collision and comprehensive is $716.00 for the year.
With liability only for both atvs is $544.00 for the year. Each atv is valued at $10,000
To me $716 is very reasonable and worth the expense at least for a few years while the quads are new.

It means the person you get in a wreck with does not have insurance. Underinsured means they don't have enough to cover. This is an issue if the wreck is their fault. Your insurance will cover you and it will not affect your rates.

Dublin, I hear where you're coming from. I also carry it as some areas around here have a lot more riders than you think, and some of the guys I ride with have old quads which are not insured, and on occasion there have been a few what I will call "near misses"
.
Also, if I go somewhere like Sand Mountain (Fallon, Nevada) there can be hundreds of riders/drivers. Looks like a Mad Max set! I also consider uninsured drivers to cover quads, jeeps, sand rails, trucks, dirt bikes, horses, etc.
By the way where did your user name come from? I'm curious as I'm originally from Dublin, Ireland.
The interesting thing about this thread is just how much insurance prices vary from place to place. Some people are definitely getting ripped off!

Uninsured/Underinsured motorist coverage is only additional MEDICAL coverage if you are injured in an ATV(or auto) accident and the other driver is at fault and does not have enough liability coverage to take care of your medical expenses. It does NOT provide coverage to fix your machine. In MN (the state I am a licensed insurance agent in) this coverage is optional on ATV's and motorcycles. Also, medical coverage is optional on ATV's and motorcyles. In MN, if you choose to take it can easily cost an additional $800 a year just for that coverage. My personal policy on my ATV carries liability limits of 100/300/100 with $250 deductibles for Comp and Coll. I opted out of UM/UIM and medical coverage because I have a good health plan. My rate is $120 year.

Just PLPD so I can ride Crown land and RR roads. Still cost $250 per year from TD insurance. My sled which will kill me alot faster is only $150.
