I carry one..I actually use it more for moving logs that I can't get a straight pull on..with the 3000# winch I've never had to use it for the leverage..but it is with me if that need ever arises.
The Sportsmans have a "tow hook" near the bottom up front..see pic below..
The XPs have a ring style "tow hook" up front.

Default ****** Block

High Octane hit the nail on the head for location. Once you get a ****** block I recommend using it at all times if possible. Will extend the life of your winch a lot!

Default ****** Block

I agree with HighOctane that is the best spot and keeping 2 with you will increase your winch power that much more. I know we have been in some serious S##T only thing that saved us. ****** blocks and tow straps. Did burn out a winch in our early days dealer recommended the ****** block and showed us the return location.

Have fun Boggin

I just bought one ****** block and a tree saver strap and a 20ft tow strap. I should be good. But your saying have 2? Im guessing it just gives you more possiblities when stuck right?

When using a winch keep the revs up a bit and that will help the winch go a little faster and not drain the battery as much. Also, if you can, drape a heavy coat or blanket over the line so that if it should snap or release suddenly it won't become a projectile. The jacket helps slow down the cable by absorbing much of the tension when it releases. Gloves are a really good idea if you have aluminum or steel cable on your winch. If you switch to synthetic line you should also put on a new set of rollers.
