Default How much oil should I have used?

Well I'm still figuring out my scrambler. I want to make sure the oil injection is working right.

I topped the gas off and topped off the oil resevoir.
I road it a few times and ended up putting 6 gallons of gas in it total to get it topped off again. I then topped the oil off and it took just under 12 ounces.

That's like a 60-70:1 ratio. Is that what it should be? It seems light to me. Has anyone checked to see what they're usage is?

Thanks,
Kevin

Sounds right. Chainsaws are 50:1. You have a larger more powerful engine.

When you get rid of the Oil Injection recommended mixing is 40:1

I know .....If I decide to block the oil injection I'll be mixing 40:1.

At lower rpm the injection is supposed to limit the oil so you don't foul plugs and at higher rpm there should be more oil to help lube when the bike's under strain (I think).

I just wondered if those number seemed right...I was mostly woods riding so I'd say I was at 1/4 to 1/2 throttle most of the time.

Thanks,
Kevin

i think that is too much oil that it is using. guessing closer to 8 ozmaybe 10 at the most would be closer. imo.

my last trip upnorth, i rode 3 days 2.5 tanks of gas over a hundred and 20 miles of riding, avg speed 20 mph (trail riding) I looked in my oil res and im guessing 8 to 10 oz will go in and my machine runs rich so i agree with stendori it seems like way to much oil. I had a problem a few years ago I was using oil like crazy so i went to check the oil pump and my spring broke and the pump for some dumb reason stuck open and was letting oil just flow in and was real smokey I got it fixed.

my 2000 explorer 400 I bought new and it used very little oil and had me concearned i took it in and had it checked over.(i was surprised on how little oil it went through) seems like i dump alot more oil in my sleds in the day.

OK.

Well found out how to adjust the oil injector and did it. So I'll test again soon.

Thanks for the help,
Kevin

That is the advantage injection has over pre mixing, why run 40:1 100% of the time such as at idle and and decelerating with the thumb off the throttle.

To adjust oil, give a bit of pressure on the throttle lever until you dont feel the "loose" on the cable and hold it there, then bring the two scribed lines together on the pump and lever by playing with adjusting nuts
