Default Broke rear factory Spring!!

Well went on a family trip for the past week and broke a rear coil spring on the Sp 450. It looked like it may have been cracked for awhile (rust at the brake). No big speed or mudding, just trails and gravel roads. It lost the very top ring just under the ring/holder plate. now I want to look for a pair a bit stronger than stock ones. The coil spring that's broke and there now is slid up past the holder plate to the bolt and frame. Thanks........Caper..........

That's a bummer! Who are you going to get the spring from? What brand?

guessing it must have been a fluke that the spring broke as you dont ride hard and we dont hear of to many springs breaking. i wouldnt go to heavy of a spring or you might have a real stiff ride. imo.

Hmm that is strange, but unless you really want a stiffer ride, I'd pass on getting harder springs

I not looking into getting stiffer springs, Just better than stock. But like you say, this may just be a fluke. So I will look into getting a price/spring from the dealer.

I know when replacing these on cars/trucks they should replace the pair due to just buying one new one the height will be different. But on a wheeler I really don't think this will matter.......what do you think?...........Caper..............

Its a good thing in a way now you have a reason to get the HD springs, there are different aftermarket one but I just bought the Polaris HD springs from the dealer because it was quick and simple. $50 each I think.

There softest setting is like the mid setting of the strock springs.

Royal Distriputing from Sudbury, Guelph and Innisfil Onario sell either EPI or Progresive HD spings online for your ATV at $50 eack as well.

Thanks, I really like the soft ride on the sportsman and don't want to change that. I am just looking for a better material than stock if it's out there.....But with 2700 miles I can't complain I guess.......Caper.......
Are the ones from royal Dis. the same as stock or HD?....

The ones at Royal are HD springs only by the looks of it. The HD was a necessity for me when I carry 250lbs pluse of camping gear on the back rack and you do not want to lose Ground clearance.

Its having to reset the preload back to trail riding mode after I unload thats a pain and bother.
