I'm going to open a can of worms. I read these forums every day, and I guess I'm confused. Why would a guy want to go 60 mph on a utility quad?
I would never consider drag racing my pickup. I bought it for a specific reason "to haul stuff". I have a 1960 Corvette for a specific reason "to go fast". You can't get a lot of plywood in the back of a vett.
Polaris and all the other quad makers produce bikes like the Scrambler, Banshee, Raptor, and Ex 400 to go fast and race. Why would one of the qualifications of a utility 4x4 be a 60 MPH top end?
Before utility 4x4 quads were around I would trail ride in my Jeep CJ-5. Our theory was lockers and super low gearing. The lower and slower, the better off-roader it was. The top end on my Jeep was about 45 mph and that was fine with me, that was my intention.
If I could change anything about my SP500 it would be to have lower gearing and more bottom end. Surely not more top end.
Please understand that I am not bashing, only trying to understand the logic behind a 60 MPH utility quad.
Thanks in advance for all the screamin' and yellin' to follow. LOL

Ride safe and have fun!!

Because I woke up too late to make it to my deerstand before sunrise- it's a five mile atv ride down wide smooth logging roads.

i am one of the people that want a fast 4x4 quad, i love going mudding and woods riding, but most of the places i ride have some wide open spaces, like old logging roads or old railroad beds, it gets pretty boring going slow trail speeds on these trails, plus i cant have my buddies waiting for me at every corner, i plan on getting the prairie650 if it actually comes out in march, maybe that will be enough for me, maybe not

sometimes you will find an open strecth of trail and you will have the urge to go fast. some people need a utility quad and can't afford a sport quad so they like to pretend they are driving one. if it has enough power on the low end think of 60MPH as a bonus.

When it comes to ATV's there is a "fun factor" brought into the formula. Without the fun factor we would all be riding around in Gravely's and Gators, which would not be any fun. That goes for sport or utility machines.

Like anything else, if it has wheels, there are some of us who will want to go quicker or faster than the next guy. I've done that with virtually everything I own, except the lawn tractor, so far. If they made a high-performance kit for it I would buy that also.

Utility atv's can be fun . . .

You mean I can do 60? :-) I don't usually push mine that fast but on a straight run what the heck, if you have it, use it.

Got to have fun every once in a while. I usually drive slow tight trails, but every once in a while you like to blow off some steam and screw around with some friends. I would hate to have the Utility just for hunting. The Sportsman H.O. is a great mix for the slow rides and the sporty ones as well.
