Maybe a dumb question; but on mine you have to run a hot wire (12v) to you switch, is that tapped into your 12v outlet, or where are you getting the 12v? Also, where are you getting your hot and ground, directly from the battery or do you have it grounded through the frame?

the switch is wired to the contactor....and the hot/grounds are directly from the battery is suppose....it was installed when the bike was new....it has worked fine up until now...I had to take apart the contactor and clean it up because it would only reel in and not out...that fixed that, but it still stalls the engine out.....I have to pull start it after it stalls out....once it runs for a bit it can start like normal...it will run fine until i try to use the winch again....

I would take the battery out and have it checked for duty amps.
How many cc is it and is it efi or not?

its a 2008 500EFI....The bearing in the electric fan is loud and bad....could this be hard on the battery? The bike only has 300 miles on it...shouldn't the battery still be good? Guess it could be bad...worth a try

The bearing would deffinatly but a slight strain on the electric motor there inturn more work for the battery. Im not finding the spec for the output of the alternator, but ill keep looking. But ya overtime that could weakin a few cells in the battery. I bought a 07 D-max and 6 months after i bought it one of the batterys went out inturn having to replace both... On the other hand, my 2002 700 sportsman has the original battery and has a butt load of miles on it. So it can go both ways.

Im betting on the battery, (im not a at mechanic but i am a heavy equip mechanic, basicly same principal and i work on all of our atv/atc's) but what happens is once you lose enough amperage to your injectors/ecm that is what would make it fall out and die. One other thing(you prolly already did), is your battery corroded in anyway, or do you have a slight bare spot on one of you battery cables/ hot winch cable. I know what you mean about the useless winch, after all day riding me and my buddies went home and rode somemore at my property, (400 bayou KFX 700 and my sporty). I got stuck first, then my buddy on the bayou got stuck tryin to come around to the front of me to winch me out, winched on a tree and killed his(no recoil), stranded 4 miles from home, no cell phone,,, and a useless 2wd atv.
