Default Sportsman 500 - Belt problem?

Looking at a 500 HO later today and have a question on something the owner said this morning... he said driving it on the street is bad on the belt and he already burned up a belt and had to replace it. there's only 63 hours on the quad and it's an '05. I don't plan to drive it on the street but, I'm concerned that a belt burned up within the first 60 hours. Is this a bad sign? Should I check something out around the belt to make sure this isn't a problem?

Driving it on the street will not burn up a belt. Many people I work with ride there Quads to work (mostly dirt roads) with no issues. However doing alot of black-top riding will wear the off road tires alot quicker though!!....Caper............

agreed that nothing on hottop will hurt the belt. hauling heavy loads in high range will though. drivinbg really slow(below 7 mph) all the time in high will cause excessive heat build up and may cause pre belt wearing.

Never did change a belt on a wheeler yet.
Can they be changed quickly like that on a snowmobile or do you need some tools with you?

Need a 3/8 ratchet, long extention,3/8 socket, phillips screwdriver and a 7/16 socket.Take the bolts ot that hold the footwell to the frame, remove bolts from belt cover, pull footwell and plastic out far enough to remove belt cover and your there.

I changed my belt at 250 hr. If the guy changed a belt at 60 hr then something is wrong.

The belt still looked ok but for $80 I think a belt should just be changed after 2700 miles for Peace of mine.
