Question Question for Roofer?

I saw your reply to "tires" about the mst's, How much heavier than the stock polaris pxt's do you think the 27" mst's are roughly? I really like the mst's as far as what they were desidned for as well as the looks of them. Also what width were those mst's you posted? Thanx in advance for the info. on them, I'll really appreciate these answers. I'm almost dead set on these tires as long as I'm not gonna lose a substantial amount of power on 500. I like these and the gators, I also like the itp xtr's but man they sure are proud of those tires looking at the price of them. It's rediculous whether you're talking truck tires or atv tires what they charge for rubber.

Well, I don't know the exact numbers, but I'd bet It'd be at least 50 pounds more overall rotating mass, and as for the XTR's I just ordered a set yesterday for $468.95 shipped, I chose them for the Radial, like the PXT's are, and the MST's aren't, and they are also considerably lighter than the MST's, and I found them to be right around the same price in the 27" size

I don't know the weight of the stock tires, but the MST's have their weights posted on the net somewhere. I'll have to check it out later. I compared them to stock Kawi tires which are much lighter than Polaris tires. It might not be much. I just don't know right now.........

I would highly doubt the MST weigh much more than XTR's. They are probably very close.

They both will ride a little smoother than Gators or bugs at real high speeds, but they are heavier. If you are considering Gators, I would suggest 26" Mudbugs. Lighter, stronger, and mud really well. The only reason I would choose XTR or MST over Bugs is if I did strictly trail riding, and then I would just be back to Bighorns.

I do more trail riding than mud, use machine for plowing, hunting, setting deer stands in swamp, and occasional mudding. Not too much as I don't have the time for the clean-up with a 2&4yr. old. I really like the looks of em, And been getting more into rock crawling and that kinda stuff, I think they'd be a good tire for that too, kinda like the 589's, I've got a clutch kit in my 500, polaris slip on for 800 and get up to about 58mph, how much do u think I'd lose? sorry 4 all the ?'s. So far you're the only one I've come across with this much knowledge on the mst's, thanks again Roofer IOU a six pack!LOL!!

All I can give you is my experiences. I had a Polaris 400 Xplorer which is lighter, faster, and more HP than the sportsman 500 NON HO. I had 26" 589's on it and it did awesome in the mud, but they were way too heavy for my liking on the trails. I had 27" MST's on my Brute Force 750 and they felt lunky and heavy compared to the bighorns in the picture I took. It was like putting the stock tires back on. Since then I always go with Maxxis, and always go with a tire that is the weight of a Bighorn or lighter. Don't get me wrong though, the MST works very well in all terrains, even snow. I have a vid if you'd like to see them in action.

Just my opinion, but I think you would be happier with a lighter tire on the 500.

As for what they can do....the MST's, Mudbugs, 589's, or zillas (not mudzillas) will do everything you want. I would stick with 26" size, unless you go with zillas. Then go 27" because they run a tad short, but are lightweight.

If you want some real in depth reviews that are very solid, look at HL and look for Sawhead's and Lips450's posts.

Wow using this chart my stock weight of the carlise pxt's were total of 86.2 (stock pxts) and when I added my Mudlites XTR's (27") the total weight is 125.2 (muds) and a difference of 39 lbs. Wow! I knew I added a few more pounds but I would of thought I made up for a few more gained with lighter rims. I guess they are not. Is this just the tire weight or is it factored with the rims for the wheel weight?

Interesting!

Thx,

R'

Just tire weights, but alot of them are inaccurate.

Wheels are another 7-10 lbs. each. Some are heavier yet, especially if they are 14's.

Yea that caught my eye too. I just figured I didn't know how all these things work together BUT it seemed strange to me that the 14" tires on the chart was weighing less than the 12".

Any others have a perspective on this?

Thx,

R'
