Default Battery or Starter Problems

My 06 trail boss 330 has been acting up over the past two weeks. The other day I went out to start the atv and it wouldn't do anything. I jump started it and it run fine for about a week then was on a ride and had been riding for about four hours and when I turned the lights on it died and drifted to a stop. When I tried to start it it wouldn't do anything again. Then I noticed the brake light come back on and it fired right up. And then today I went to start it and nothing wouldn't turn over click nothing. So I tried the pull start and it fired right up. Stopped it and tried to start with the key but nothing used the pull start fired up again. So do I have a bad battery or starter or possible something else.

Thanks
Lynn Sesco

sounds like the battery is either junk, or the bike isnt charging. try putting a voltage tester on it and w/ it started and reved up it should be reading around 13.5 or higher w/ a charged battery. you might be able to take the battery out and to a parts store to have them test it w/ a load tester to see if its any good.

OK I put a meter on it today and it showed 13 to 14 volts while running so then I took the battery to have a load test done and they said the battery was showing good but had a low charge so what now.

Thanks

Do you have anything on the quad that might be slowly pulling juice from the battery even when the key is off. I've also seen batterys that read good, (according to the load tester) but will only hold just enough charge to get by, (if that) . Also inspect to see if somthing is shorting out which can play haveck on the electrical system. I know this from personal experience.

Th only thing that I have put on it that might be doing it is a 12v outlet.

With everything off in a lil dark place take battery terminal off and just touch the battery see if you see a spark. If you do seems like you have a draw on the battery even when off.

check the connections at the selenoid, take the battery cables off and check the nuts underneath them, for tightness.
