I have a 2000 Polaris Sportsman 500. I have bought a new starter, new solenoid, new off/on switch and ATV still will not crank with the on switch. I can jump the solenoid and it will crank fine. Any suggestions on how to make sure that the switch is getting the power to the solenoid??

 

If wire leading to solenoid is not hot when ignition is turned on,you can rewire up from solenoid up to switch harness connection and splice in with a single wire. Probably easier to do this than find what appears to be a short in the wire somewhere in the harness. Schematic is recommended .

 

I tested the wire on solenoid and it is getting power when I hit the start button. Do you know if the solenoid needs to be grounded out to the ATV frame. That is one thing I have not tried.

 

Older models have a ground wire,but if you have the newer replacement solenoid,you might try an extra wire from the screw mounting on the solenoid body to any brown wire or to frame. OPT

 

I got it!! The solenoid had to be mounted to the atv to work. Once mounted it cranked right up. Thanks for the help guys!!

Mounting it to your atv gave it the ground it needed.
