Hi, I'm new to this forum and new to Polaris products. I just bought an 850XP. I am not used to the high RPM range it seems to run in. I am still breaking it in and have about 90 miles on it. At cruising speeds of around 25 MPH it is running at about 4200+ RPM. Is this normal for Polaris? The serious power seems to kick in around 5000 RPM. The dealer is telling me that The rev limiter is set at about 7000 and that it is built to take it. Any advice or opinions would be apppreciated. Thanks

 

Yes the rpms that you mention sound right, usually I am around 4000 to 4500 if I have any speed in first gear. I don't know if the rev limiter is set that low (7000 RPMS) though, you need to be near 6800 rpms (WOT) for the best power, I had put a clutch kit and it ran 6400, it was a dog at that rpm, needless to say I"m back to the stock setup, works best for me.

 

not sure the exact rpm the rev limiter kicks in but I have had mine up to 7800 in low range. Im sure I was very close to the rev limiter.
